Zamak 3
Zamak alloy primarily consists of zinc and aluminum in addition to other metals. The main components of Zamak 3 alloy have about 96% zinc and a small percent of aluminum. But there are other metals in a very small amount. The below list shows all the components of Zamak 3:
Aluminum (Al) – 3.8 – 4.2%
Magnesium (Mg) – 0.035 – 0.06%
Lead (Pb) – 0.003%
Copper (Cu) – 0.03%
Iron (Fe) – 0.02%
Nickel (Ni) – 0.001%
Cadmium (Cd) – 0.003%
Tin (Sn) – 0.001%
Silicon (Si) – 0.02%
Zamak 5
Zamak 5 is an alloy of Zinc that is also commonly known as Zinc Alloy 5, ZnAl4Cu1, or ASTM AC41A. It has balanced material properties compared to Zamak 2 and Zamak 3 Alloy. It is the most commonly used Zamak alloy in the Europe region.
Zamak 5 Characteristics
The alloy has average ductility and dimensional stability. It shows slightly inferior pressure tightness and resistance to hot cracking compared to other Zamak family alloys. However, the ease and quality of machining, polishing, electroplating, and finishing of parts are on par with other Zamak alloys.
